In the presence of Alkis’ parents and in an emotional atmosphere, the official renaming ceremony of the street where Alkis Kampanos was murdered took place on Tuesday morning, March 14th. The street was renamed from “Anthimos Gazis” to “Alkis Kampanos”.
“Let Alkis’ sacrifice be a new beginning for our sport with less violence and almost no victims” said the 19-year-old’s father, Aristides Kampanos, after the unveiling ceremony.
At the street renaming ceremony, there were present, among others, a representative of the Structure, fans of Aris, the Deputy Home Secretary, responsible for Macedonia-Thrace issues, Stavros Kalafatis, the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, the Deputy Regional Governor for Development and Environment of the region of Central Macedonia, Kostas Yioutikas, the President of Thessaloniki Municipal Council, Petros Lekakis and the president of AS Aris, Lefteris Arvanitis.
The next step, according to publications, will be the placement of a monument at the site of the student’s murder, as it has been approved by the Directorate of Architecture of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.
What the Structure “February 1st, In the name of Alkis” is waiting for, is the approval of establishing the date “February 1st” as the “Panhellenic Fan Day”. A day that should be established as a sports holiday and actions should be taken in all schools and sports academies of the country, with the aim of strengthening the sports spirit and eliminating all forms of violence.
Let’s not mourn any more victims. Let our Alkis be the last.
